About Us
Tom and Loretta grew up in the same hometown, Weatherford,
Oklahoma and both began drawing and painting as children taking lessons from the same private art teacher. Loretta's formal art studies continued at Oklahoma University, Scripps Institute of Art, Claremont, California, and Fort Worth Art Center, Texas. Tom
says his greatest influence and early training towards his career as a Scientific and Technical Illustrator was his father, a professor
of Industrial Arts at Southwestern State University. Tom's studies continued at the University of Wichita, Kansas, Northrup Aeronautical Institute, Inglewood, California, Art Center School, Los Angeles California, and Smithsonian Institution, Washington, D.C.
Tom and Loretta's lives went in separate directions after childhood, raised separate families, but both had art careers, both attaining numerous honors and awards nationally and internationally. Their art work with diversified media, style and subject matter can be found in many collector's homes, government offices, museums and churches. Loretta’s teaching at Tarrant County College, workshops, and classes has inspired many art students to appreciate and capture on canvas the beauty of God's creation. Tom's art work for Aero-space Corp. in California and the Navel Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C. contributed to the current space program.
Fifty five years later, Tom and Loretta met again at an art show in Clinton Oklahoma. Both had lost their spouses, yes it was love at first sight! Their common interest in Western and Heritage Art drew them to paint together and form "Tom and Loretta's Art of the West." They got married at Artistic Blend Art Gallery and Coffee Shop in Fort Worth, Texas, surrounded by their art work and other artist, Loretta Schapansky is happy now to sign her paintings – Loretta S.
